This was an excellent match, far closer to the quality of their 5/6/98 match in NEO than the other two. Kyoko hit another Niagara Driver for a near fall, and went for it again but Lioness blew mist into her eyes and finished with a wheel kick. Kyoko hit her Niagara Driver for a near fall. Lioness went for a backdrop through table but Kyoko elbowed her off and Lioness crashed through it. The seconds set up the corner table again and Lioness hit the Liger Bomb off it for a near fall. Lioness pulled her off the turnbuckle and hit her Tower Hacker Bomb for a good near fall, which was somewhat ruined by the referees deliberate count. Kyoko hit her rope lariats but was unable to hit her Niagara Driver. Lioness hit another Liger Bomb and went for the Liger Bomb off the corner table but Kyoko countered it and footstomped her. Lioness missed a moonsault but recovered to backdrop suplex Kyoko onto the chairs, then hit her moonsault for a near fall. OZ Academy prevented the run up diving elbow and Lioness hit her Liger Bomb onto the chairs but the referee wouldn’t count. Kyoko blocked the Liger Bomb and German Suplexed Lioness onto the pile, Kyoko almost took the worst of it because she landed on the corner of a chair and grazed her shoulder. Lioness did a huge diving footstomp through a table on the outside, then piled up chairs in the ring and superplexed Kyoko onto them. Lioness turned her hope lariat into a backdrop to the outside and followed up with a tope. Kyoko won the next brawl outside but had to fight off OZ Academy to maintain control. What was noticeable in this match, and had actually been the case through some of her matches later in 1998, was that Kyoko had relearned how to work with her diminished stamina and athleticism, and while she’ll never be Kyoko 1996, much less 1992, seeing her pace herself more and wrestle within her limitations is a lot more preferable to the constant no-selling bursts and blown spots you’d get in 1998. Kyoko came back with their help and slowed things down until Lioness started using a chain. Lioness was getting some help from her seconds from OZ Academy and The Bloody and Fang Suzuki were pissed off that Lioness abandoned them, so they helped Kyoko. Lioness was using a table in the ring and we got an interesting twist. Lioness used everything that was nailed down on Kyoko at the start and dragged her all over the building. These two managed one good match, one MOTY and one bad match in 1998, so, this could have been anything. Yabushita caught Sakai on the top rope and locked in a jujigatame to win the title. This was a fun match to watch and they’re only going to get better with experience. It wasn’t perfect and it looked a little cooperative at times but they’re so incredibly smooth transitioning their spots into submissions that it’s hard not to be impressed. They executed their spots and bumped for each other really well. The judo girls don’t disappoint, and it shouldn’t be understated how good they have gotten given that they haven’t even been wrestling for two years. Crusher Maedomari & Ryuna, Shark Tsuchiya vs. The undercard was clipped to nothing, and all the matches looked awful. Retro Joshi #408: Jd’ Janu& GAEA February, 1999 - Lioness Asuka vs.
